Forbearance temporarily postpones mortgage payments until a later date. This allows clients to remain in their home as they adjust to short-term financial difficulties.
We feel it is always in our client’s best interests to remain current on their mortgage payments. Forbearance should not be considered until there are no other rational options.

If all other options have been exhausted, we will allow up to a 3-month forbearance on mortgage payments. All deferred payments will be due after the forbearance period.
Forbearance is a temporary suspension of your mortgage payments, allowing you to remain in your home while working through your short-term financial challenges. We will suspend your payments for up to 3 months. At the conclusion of the forbearance period, all of your deferred payments will be due.
- Temporary suspension of your payments gives you time to improve your financial situation.
- Forbearance doesn’t negatively impact your credit score.
- Allows you to stay in your home and avoid foreclosure.
When forbearance is over, the loan needs to be brought up to date. One of the following must occur or the loan will default:
-
- Pay the deferred payments in full.
- Request and receive approval for an extension of the forbearance.
- Request and receive approval for a repayment plan.
- Apply for a loan modification.
Forbearance doesn’t mean your mortgage debt is forgiven or reduced. Deferred payments are still debt that you must repay.
Refinancing your current mortgage is a popular alternative to forbearance. If you are concerned about making future mortgage payments, refinancing may be a good option for you.
Streamline refinances are available to eligible borrowers who currently have an FHA or a VA loan. Streamline refinances allow borrowers to quickly and easily lock in lower rates and payments with significantly less paperwork.
Other benefits include:
- No appraisal
- No additional lender fees
- No minimum credit score
