mortgage lenders near Lenox Hill, NY

Finding a mortgage company in Lenox Hill, NY isn’t all that hard; a quick search for “mortgage companies near me”, “best mortgage company near me”, or even “best online mortgage lenders” will certainly reveal plenty of options to choose from. While it’s true that there’s no shortage of mortgage companies that service the New York County area, choosing the best mortgage lender to meet your needs can seem like a daunting task.

How do you narrow down the options and find the right lender for you? To help you choose the right mortgage company that will meet your specific needs, here’s a look at some handy tips to consider.

Ask Your Real Estate Agent

If you’re already working with a real estate agent, ask him or her to refer you to a reputable New York County mortgage lender. An experienced realtor will be well-versed in the financing process and should be able to direct you to reputable mortgage companies; moreover, your agent should be able to tell you which mortgage lenders you should steer clear of.

Ask Your Network

If you aren’t working with an agent yet and you want to get preapproved for a loan before you reach out to one, ask your social network if they can recommend mortgage companies. If you know friends, family members, or even co-workers who have recently purchased or refinanced a house in Lenox Hill, NY, ask them if they would recommend the mortgage lender they worked with. You can count on your network to offer honest insight. For example, if your buddy wasn’t happy with his experience with a mortgage company, it’s a safe bet that he’ll let you know; likewise, if your sibling, cousin, or any other family member had a great experienced with the mortgage companies they worked with, it’s likely that they’ll provide you with the details.

Read Online Reviews

You can also check online reviews to find the best mortgage companies near you. Check the websites of Manhattan, NY mortgage companies for testimonials. You can also use resources like Angie’s List, Home Advisor, and Zillow to find reviews of different mortgage lenders in the area. You can find overviews of mortgage companies that service your local area on these sites, including their background and credentials, as well as reviews from real clients that have first-hand experience working with Lenox Hill NY mortgage companies.

Consider Experience

It’s true that a new mortgage lender may have a lot of knowledge in financing; however, there is something to be said for experience. Reviewing documents, assessing interest rates, speaking with banks, and everything else that goes into securing a home mortgage can take a lot of time and requires a good bit of knowledge and first-hand experience. Chances are you’re going to have better results when you work with a mortgage lender that is well-established in the Lenox Hill, NY community and has a proven track record of success. When you’re researching mortgage companies near me, be sure to check out how long each lender has been in business and inquire about the type of experience they have had.

Look at Proximity

While a mortgage lender’s location won’t impact his or her experience, it may affect your overall experience. When applying for financing, meeting deadlines is extremely important. When you have questions or you need assistance (which you probably will at some point), you’ll want to know that you will be able to get in touch with your mortgage lender. For these reasons, you might want to take a mortgage company’s location into consideration. It’s much more likely that you’ll have a better outcome when your lender is situated in your time zone or even better, in the same zip code.

Consider Loan Options

Lastly, when you’re looking for a mortgage lender who will best suit your needs, it’s important to find someone who offers and has experience in the specific type of home loan you are interested in. There are several different types of mortgages available; conventional, FHA, SONYMA, USDA, VA, and FHA 203k Rehabilitation are just some of the different options. For example, if you’re a veteran, you may be interested in finding out if you qualify for a VA home loan, so you’ll want to choose a mortgage company that has experience with this specialized type of financing.

Schedule Consultations

Before you choose a New York County mortgage lender, it’s a good idea to schedule consultations with a handful of different companies. Pick at least three lenders that appear to offer the qualifications that will meet your needs and schedule an appointment to meet with a broker from each mortgage company. Find out what type of documentation you should bring with you during your appointment with each broker so they can run numbers and offer you an overview of the rates that you may qualify for. Additionally, you should ask some key questions that are pertinent to securing a loan. After you’ve finished the consultation process, compare the rates each mortgage company offered, as well as the overall impression each lender made.

Some information about Lenox Hill, NY

Lenox Hill is a neighborhood on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. It forms the lower section of the Upper East Side—east of Park Avenue in the 60s and 70s.

The neighborhood is named for the hill that ‘stood at what became 70th Street and Park Avenue.’ The name ‘Lenox’ is that of the immigrant Scottish merchant Robert Lenox (1759-1839), who owned about 30 acres (120,000 m2) of land ‘at the five-mile (8 km) stone’, reaching from Fifth to Fourth (now Park) Avenues and from East 74th to 68th Streets. For the sum of $6,420 ($109,000 in current dollar terms) or $6,920 ($117,000) he had purchased a first set of three parcels in 1818, at an auction held at the Tontine Coffee House of mortgaged premises of Archibald Gracie, in order to protect Gracie’s heirs from foreclosure, as he was executor of Gracie’s estate. Several months later he purchased three further parcels, extending his property north to 74th Street. According to one source, ‘Thereafter these two tracts were known as the ‘Lenox Farm.” The tenant farmhouse stood on the rise of ground between Fifth and Madison avenues and 70th and 71st Streets, which would have been the hill, if the property had ever been called ‘Lenox Hill.’ The railroad right-of-way of the New York & Harlem Railroad passed along the east boundary of the property.

Union Theological Seminary on Park Avenue, in Lenox Hill (1883).

Robert Lenox’s son James Lenox divided most of the farm into blocks of building lots and sold them during the 1860s and 1870s; he also donated land for the Union Theological Seminary along the railroad right-of-way, between 69th and 70th Streets, and just north of it a full square block between Madison and Fourth Avenue, 70th and 71st streets, for the Presbyterian Hospital, which occupied seven somewhat austere structures on the plot; He built the Lenox Library on a full block-front of Fifth Avenue, now the site of the Frick Collection.
