Buying your first home is certainly exciting, but the process can be extremely overwhelming. Finding a house that ticks off all of your boxes is just part of the equation There are so many other factors that need to be taken into consideration; among them, deciding which mortgage company to work with.
While there are plenty of mortgage companies out there, you don’t want to settle for just anyone; you want to choose the best. To help make the process a bit easier, here are some tips that you can use to find reputable Nassau County mortgage lenders to facilitate the purchase of your first home.
Start by Researching
First things first: you’re going to want to do some research. Start by searching “mortgage companies near me”, “mortgage lenders near me”, or a similar query on the Internet. While your search is sure to reveal several options, you don’t want to choose the first lender you find; instead, you’re going to want to dig a little deeper.
Check out the reputation, experience, and number of years that prospective lenders have been in business. There are a lot of “fly-by-night” and “pop-up” lenders, so-to-speak; steering clear of these companies is highly advisable. Your best bet is to opt for a company that is established in the community, has years of experience, and has successfully secured mortgages for a long list of other first-time homebuyers in the University Gardens area.
Consider First-Time Homebuyer Programs
Take a look at the different programs prospective lenders offer. Since this is the first time you’re purchasing a home, your best bet is to look for mortgage lenders that offer first-time homebuyer programs. Many lenders team up with agencies to provide first-time buyers with invaluable services, such as down payment assistance, discounts, and a variety of resources that are specifically designed for those who are new to the home buying process.
Though government agencies finance incentives and programs that are offered for first-time homebuyers, lenders take care of the mortgages. By working with a lender that offers first-time buyer programs, you’ll be able to easily access any assistance you may require.
You’re going to be charged a lot of different fees when you’re securing mortgage lenders, and these fees are on top of the amount you’ll be borrowing to purchase a home. As such, it’s a good idea to compare rates that different lenders charge, as they vary significantly from lender to lender.
Compare interest rates and annual percentage rates (APRs) that prospective lenders are offering. These rates will play a big part in the total amount you’ll end up paying over the life of your loan. It’s also a good idea to compare different fees, such as loan and title origination, application, and appraisal fees, as these expenses will impact the amount you’ll need to bring to closing.
Another helpful tip: When you’re comparing rates, if you aren’t sure about something, ask. You want to make sure you have a firm understanding of the different fees and how they’ll affect you, so don’t be afraid to inquire about anything you’re unsure of.
Getting preapproved for a home loan is important. It shows sellers that you have access to financing and that your offer is solid, should they decide to accept it. Plus, a preapproval also gives you an understanding of what your payments will be like if you decide to borrow the amount you are approved for.
Different lenders use different strategies for issuing preapprovals. For example, some Nassau County mortgage lenders may use digital files and can issue an approval in a matter of minutes, while other mortgage companies may require you to deliver documents by hand and can take a few days to get back to you. It’s important to compare and consider the preapproval methods that the lenders you’re thinking about working with us so you know when you’ll be able to access your letter.

Some information about University Gardens, NY
University Gardens is a hamlet and a census-designated place (CDP) in Nassau County, on the North Shore of Long Island, in New York. The main subdivision for which the CDP is named for is located towards its northeastern edge. It is located within and is governed by the Town of North Hempstead and is part of the Greater Great Neck area.
The University Gardens subdivision within the greater, eponymous CDP is a distinct community founded in 1927 and operates under a set of covenants recorded with its 218 homes and 17 commercial properties under the auspices of the University Gardens Property Owners Association, Inc.
The name of the CDP, which as aforementioned is named for the smaller, eponymous subdivision, derives from the fact that the land which the subdivision is located on was purchased from and built atop the short-lived University Golf Club, and because Russell Gardens, located across Northern Boulevard, was being developed around the same time.
As such, the “University” part of its name comes from the golf club and the “Gardens” part of its name comes from Russell Gardens.
